{allcanada} Senators' Hammond tweaks groin, out vs. Canadiens

Ottawa Senators goaltender Andrew Hammond will not play against the Montreal Canadiens in a preseason game Thursday after he injured his groin during the morning skate.

"Hammond isn't going. He tweaked a groin," coach Dave Cameron told the Ottawa Sun. "Tweaked groin is all I know. I have no time limit on it … I haven't talked to anybody. I got the information relayed to me."

Craig Anderson will start for Ottawa at Bell Centre. The Senators recalled Matt O'Connor from Binghamton of the American Hockey League to be the backup.

Hammond signed a three-year, $4.05 million contract May 20. He was 20-1-2 with a 1.79 goals-against average and .941 save percentage after he was called up from the AHL in February following injuries to Anderson and Robin Lehner (traded to the Buffalo Sabres on June 26).

Nicknamed "The Hamburglar," Hammond helped the Senators, who were 14 points out of a playoff spot last season, earn the first wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.
