Season series: The Ottawa Senators defeated the Detroit Red Wings 3-1 at Joe Louis Arena on Friday in their first game of the season. Andrew Hammond made 29 saves to earn his first victory, and Ottawa got goals from Kyle Turris, Matt Puempel and Bobby Ryan.

Red Wings team scope: Goalie Petr Mrazek will make his sixth start of the season after Jimmy Howard made 32 saves Friday, the Free Press reported. Detroit has lost six of its past seven games (1-5-1). Captain Henrik Zetterberg, who scored a workmanlike goal Friday, hopes the Red Wings follow his lead. "I think overall this year, we probably have to be a little bit more aggressive in front of our net and also in front of theirs," he said. "Both their goals, 50-50 pucks that come in and end up on their stick instead of ours." The Red Wings are 18th in the NHL in goals against (2.70 per game) and 20th in goals scored (2.30).

Senators team scope: Craig Anderson likely will be in goal after Hammond made his second start of the season following his return from a groin injury he sustained in the preseason. Forward Mike Hoffman might return Saturday after missing three games with a lower-body injury, according to the Ottawa Sun. Ottawa has won two in a row following a four-game losing streak (0-2-2). "We needed it," said Ryan, who had a goal and an assist to extend his point streak to three games. "We've got to start to get on a roll. It's two points in a division road game, a four-point game." Turris' six goals lead the Senators; he has 13 in his past 23 regular-season games dating to last season. The Senators are ninth in the NHL in goals scored (3.00 per game) and 22nd in goals against (2.90 per game).
