{allcanada} Draisaitl scores twice, Oilers rally past Canadiens

EDMONTON -- Leon Draisaitl scored two goals to help the Edmonton Oilers battle back from a three-goal deficit and defeat the Montreal Canadiens 4-3 at Rexall Place on Thursday.

Draisaitl, called up from the Bakersfield of the American Hockey League earlier in the day, scored the winning goal at 18:58 of the third period to complete the comeback.

Brandon Davidson and Benoit Pouliot also scored in the third period for Edmonton (4-8-0). Connor McDavid had two assists to extend his point streak to seven games.

Brendan Gallagher, Torrey Mitchell and Alex Galchenyuk scored to give the Canadiens a 3-0 first-period lead.

Cam Talbot made 18 saves to help Edmonton end a three-game losing streak.

Canadiens goalie Carey Price made 23 saves. He is 1-6-1 against Edmonton in his career.

Montreal (9-2-0) has lost two straight after winning its first nine games of the season.

Gallagher scored at 9:27 on the power play, tipping a P.K. Subban point shot past Talbot. The goal was Gallagher's fifth of the season and fourth in the past four games.

Mitchell put Montreal up 2-0 at 16:56, stripping Oilers defenseman Oscar Klefbom of the puck at the Oilers blue line and snapping a shot past Talbot. Mitchell has scored a goal in four the past five games.

Galchenyuk gave the Canadiens a 3-0 lead with his second goal with 2:09 left. The Canadiens forward took a cross-crease pass out of the corner from defenseman Andrei Markov and tapped the puck into the net.

Draisaitl scored with 52 seconds left in the second period to cut the lead to 3-1, taking a rebound off the end boards and managing to get the puck past Price.

Draisaitl knocked the puck back toward the net, where it hit Price and crossed the line in midair before Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin could knock it away. The goal was confirmed after video review.

Early in the third, Edmonton came close to cutting the lead to one goal, when Ryan Nugent-Hopkins batted a rebound out of the air past Price. Subban, however, was able to get to the puck just before it crossed the goal line and cleared it.

Davidson did pull the Oilers to within a goal with his first of the season. The play started with McDavid winning a battle in the corner for the puck and sending it back to Darnell Nurse at the point. Nurse slid the puck over to Davidson, who stepped into a shot from the blue line and beat Price.

Pouliot tied the game at 10:43 on a breakaway, snapping a shot past Price. McDavid created the opportunity by winning a battle for the puck along the boards against Subban, then tipping it past Markov to Pouliot.

Taylor Hall came close to giving Edmonton the lead with less than three minutes to play, taking a cross-ice pass and snapping a shot, which Price slid across his net to glove.

Draisaitl scored the game-winner after Nugent-Hopkins won a race against David Desharnais for the puck behind the net and sent it out in front.
