Another day, another round o' "Star Wars" movie news.
This time the rumors are in relation to "Episode VII," under the direction of Rian Johnson ("Looper"), and three actresses who are being considered for a starring role opposite previously announced "Force Awakens" star John Boyega.
According to a report from The Wrap, Gina Rodriguez ("Jane the Virgin"), Tatiana Maslany ("Orphan Black") and relative newcomer Olivia Cooke ("Me Earl and the Dying Girl") are all on the shortlist for the role. The report is speculative of course and mentions that the three actresses are not the only ones in consideration as there are still "several rising stars yet to read" for Johnson.
No matter how it shakes out, this is a great list to start. All three actresses are fully capable of holding their own in a "Star Wars" film.
As with all things "Star Wars"-related, the details surrounding "Episode VIII" are almost nonexistent, but at least there's no rush here. Johnson has plenty of time to find the perfect leading lady as the film doesn't begin production until early next year and won't hit theaters until May 26, 2017.
