{allcanada} Ryan Reynolds says old pal shopped pictures of his baby

Fatherhood is great, says Ryan Reynolds in his GQ cover interview. Except for that business with the old friend who tried to sell pictures of sweet baby James Reynolds. That was like "death."

Numerous celebrity parents have sought to gain control over the constant media attention focused on their non-celeb children, even asking news media organizations to pledge they won't publish pictures of children without their parents' consent.

But who needs predatory paparazzi when your pals might betray you?

Reynolds, who's on the cover of the October issue of GQ, is out promoting Deadpool, and agreed to talk about other matters, such as his domestic bliss with wife Blake Lively and baby daughter James in a rustic house in the suburbs of New York City.

About four months ago, he posted a touching picture on his Instagram of the baby's hand in his.

Thumb wrestling isn't always fair. Curiously, my hand is the small one.

So how do you like fatherhood, writer Zach Baron asked him. James was born in December.

"I've learned that an inordinate amount of clichés are completely true," Reynolds told him. "Like, there is this kid here that I would walk through fire for. Or maybe not fire. Like, a very hot pavement, I'd walk through. A shag rug."

So life was good, until he discovered that a friend of 25 years, someone he grew up with, had tried to sell pictures of the baby that Reynolds had sent to him/

"A guy that I'd known for my whole life, one of my closest friends growing up, he had been shopping pictures of my baby around. I kind of got in front of it, which is good. But it was a slightly dark period. A bad couple of weeks."

The betrayal, he said, was "like a death. It was like one of those devastating things to find out."

And the friend, now ex-friend, did it for the money, he said.

"I don't think he thought he would ever be caught. But it's a pretty narrow group of people that I would send photos like that to. They're just, like, my closest family and my closest friends: 'Here's us in the delivery room!' "

Reynolds said he was too shocked to even talk to the ex-friend. "There isn't really a conversation to have. It's just, 'Oh, well, now I'm never going to see you or talk to you again, unfortunately.' That's kind of how it worked out."

The magazine will be on newsstands nationally on September 28.
