When the 2016 Davis Cup kicks off next March, Canada will have a stiff first test.
On Wednesday the International Tennis Federation decided, via draw, that the Canadian team will face nine-time champion France in the first round. France and Canada last met at the Davis Cup in 2012 with France earning a 4-1 win.
Because that match was played in Vancouver, Canada will be on the road next year. According to the ITF Davis Cup Nations Ranking, France is the fifth-ranked team and Canada is ranked 10th.
This season, Canada fell to Belgium in the Davis Cup quarterfinals after losing Milos Raonic and Vasek Pospisil to injury.
