[SurroundSound] DTS --> S/PDIF pass-through under Win7Pro64?

In my new PC, I initially installed a cheap 'Diamond XtremeSound PCI-e 7.1 Channels Low Profile 24-Bit Sound Card XS71HD', which comes with an adapter plate with both optical and COAX S/PDIF in- and output connectors.  I had hoped that it would handle DTS pass-through (the documentation is vague), but sadly I couldn't make it do that (the subject of my earlier post:
https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/surroundsound/fJ-PR8kn2rU – excuse the Title typo; I don't know how to retrospectively correct it!)
The tests in Windows Control Panel 'Sounds' would output DTS to my external S/PDIF-connected surround receiver, but no player that I tried would.

Because support for the Diamond card is effectively non-existent (neither company nor user forum responds), I decided to try a different sound card that might at least have better support.  So I bought a second-hand 'Asus Xonar D2X/XDT/A PCI-e', which also gave the impression of supporting DTS pass-through.

But it's worse than the Diamond!  It won't even play stereo unless I 'reconfigure' the settings in Control Panel every time I start playing something!  And no DTS pass-through – same behaviour as the Diamond card.  Also no response to my Asus forum post.

So I'm stumped – I can't simply play any audio from my PC, let alone DTS!

Has anyone succeeded in getting DTS pass-through working through an S/PDIF port on a Win7Pro64 PC??  If so, details of your card, player, and their setups would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Daniel (Australia)
