ANTIGONISH, N.S. – NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1 championship leader Scott Steckly is all intent on keeping his lead at the end of the day at Riverside International Speedway.
Steckly, of Milverton, Ontario, posted a fast lap of 14.563 seconds (82.318 mph) in Saturday's final practice session to lead all entries for the Wounded Warriors Canada 300. He also paced the day's first practice at the .333-mile high-banked oval in the No. 22 Canadian Tire Dodge at 14.636 (81.908).
Steckly enters Race No. 9 of 11 with an 11-point lead in the standings on Jason Hathaway with Andrew Ranger 14 points out.
Ranger was second on the speed chart in the final session at 14.571 (82.273) while defending race winner Donald Chisholm was third at 14.572 (82.267). D.J. Kennington and Hathaway rounded out the top five.
In the first practice Marc-Antoine Camirand finished second behind Steckly at 14.677 (81.679) with rookie David Michaud third at 14.697 (81.568). Hathaway and Ranger finished fourth and fifth.
Qualifying for the Wounded Warriors Canada 300 is slated for 4:40 p.m. ADT with green flag at 8 p.m.
