TROIS-RIVIERES, Que. – Andrew Ranger is so comfortable at Circuit de Trois-Rivieres, he only chose to participate in one practice Saturday. He had proved enough.
Ranger, from Roxton Pond, Quebec, posted a fast lap of 67:907 seconds (81.111 mph) around the 1.53-mile street course in Saturday's first session of the day. A four-time winner in the famed Grand Prix de Trois-Rivieres, Ranger did not grid for the day's final practice.
In fact, that was the strategy for all but two of the 25 entries, as the others chose not to participate in the final session due to wet conditions. Only Ray Courtemanche Jr. and Simon Dion-Viens made runs in final practice.
Two-time Trois-Rivieres pole winner Alex Tagliani finished second on the speed chart at 68:063 (80.925). Defending race victor L.P. Dumoulin was third at 68.173 (80.794) followed by last year's polesitter Marc-Antoine Camirand at 68.389 (80.539) and this year's Circuit ICAR winner Kevin Lacroix at 68.504 (80.404).
Gary Klutt, Alex Labbe, Scott Steckly, J.F. Dumoulin and D.J. Kennington rounded out the top 10.
Pole qualifying is slated for later today at 5 p.m., and the JuliaWine.com Le 50 Tours will go green Sunday at 2:10 p.m.
