{allcanada} Ellen Page takes on Ted Cruz and LGBT issues at Iowa State Fair

Sen. Ted Cruz got a little more than fried Twinkies and funnel cake when actress Ellen Page confronted him at the Iowa State Fair on Friday (Aug. 21).

The Republican presidential hopeful was making a campaign stop in Iowa when Page approached the booth where he was grilling meats to ask about his stance on LGBT issues. Page herself came out on Valentine's Day 2014 and was in the area filming her travel series "Gaycation with Ellen Page" for Vice Media.

"What about the question about LGBT people being fired for being gay-trans?" Page presses the senator.

"What we're seeing right now, we're seeing Bible-believing Christians being persecuted for living according to their faith," he responds.

"You're discriminating against LGBT people. Would you use that argument in segregation?" Page replies, to which Cruz says he doesn't want to engage in a debate at this time.

This isn't the first time Page has publicly disagreed with Cruz on his political platforms. Cruz was also born in Canada, where Page is from, and in 2013 she called him out on Twitter for not supporting universal health care.

@EllenPage : Too bad Ted Cruz didn't spend some more formative years in Canada and realize how great public health care is.

Cruz responded to ABC News on that front saying that he'd never heard of Page — making him potentially the only person who has never seen "Juno."
