
MIRABEL, Quebec, Canada -- Kevin Lacroix had an eventful morning prior to the fifth annual Ecko Unlimited 100 at Circuit ICAR.
The 26-year-old rookie from Saint-Eustache, Quebec, posted the fastest time in first practice for the NASCAR Canadian Tire Series presented by Mobil 1. And then his No. 74 Lacroix Tuning/Excellence Chrysler Dodge completed just one lap in the second session after reporting the left rear axle cap had come off.
Lacroix's lap of 1 minute, 37.331 seconds (78.154 mph) around the 2.113-mile, 14-turn road course in the first 30-minute run stood up as the fastest time overall. Lacroix, who was 30th in his debut at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park, ran eight laps overall.
Andrew Ranger, a three-time winner at ICAR, was second fastest overall with his lap of 1:37.408 (78.092) that topped the final practice.
Elie Arseneau was third quick overall at 1:37.498 (78.027), followed by Alex Tagliani and Alex Labbe.
LP Dumoulin, Marc-Antoine Camirand, Scott Steckly, Gary Klutt and Kerry Micks coupleted the top 10. The top seven where seperated by less than one second.
Championship points leader Jason Hathaway was 14th overall. He enters the season's fourth race with a four-point lead over rookie Gary Klutt and 14-point cushion on third-place Steckly. Klutt was 15th in practice.
Qualifying is slated for 3:25 p.m., and the Ecko Unlimited will take the green on Sunday at 2:45 p.m.
