Forward Connor McDavid, the No. 1 pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, agreed to terms on a three-year, entry-level contract with the Edmonton Oilers on Friday.

McDavid, who many believe is the best prospect to come out of the draft since the Pittsburgh Penguins chose Sidney Crosby with the top pick in 2005, had 44 goals and 76 assists in 47 games with the Erie Otters of the Ontario Hockey League last season. He also had three goals and 11 points to lead Canada to a gold medal in the 2015 IIHF World Junior Championship, and led the OHL in playoff scoring with 49 points (21 goals, 28 assists) in 20 games.

Granted exceptional player status by Hockey Canada in 2012, which made him eligible to be drafted as a 15-year-old, McDavid was selected by Erie with the first pick of the 2012 OHL draft. He scored 25 goals and 66 points in 63 games as a rookie, and his 285 points (97 goals, 188 assists) in three seasons with the Otters are the second most in their history.

McDavid began his first development camp with the Oilers on Wednesday. He took part in a full practice Thursday and will play in a 4-on-4 tournament Monday, the final day of camp.

"It's still early; it's development camp. It's going to take a little while for all of it to sink in," McDavid said Wednesday. "It still feels surreal. I'm just trying to picture being part of an NHL organization, let alone the Edmonton Oilers with such a storied background. It's still pretty surreal and it's taking a little bit to sink it. But it's exciting to say that."
