ST. PETERSBURG, Russia — Canada's Olympic champion Rosie MacLennan and partner Samantha Sendel claimed silver in the synchro event at the season-opening trampoline World Cup on Saturday.
Toronto's MacLennan and Sendel, from Aurora, Ont., the reigning world silver medallists in the event, moved up from fourth after qualifications to place second with a score of 45.600 points. They were narrowly beaten by Russians Nadezhda Glebova and Susana Kochesok (46.000).
MacLennan placed fifth in the individual event, while Samantha Smith of Toronto was seventh.
Li Dan of China won the gold, while Yana Pavlova of Russia was second, and Zhong Xingping of China, third.
MacLennan, competed with the most difficult routine in the final but ran into some problems with execution.
In the tumbling finals Raphaelle Villotte of Montreal and Erin Templeton of Regina placed fifth and seventh respectively in the women's competition, while Jon Schwaiger of Burlington, Ont., was seventh on the men's side.
