CANET-EN-ROUSSILLON, France — Canada's Katerine Savard, Hilary Caldwell and Ryan Cochrane all won medals Saturday to open the Mare Nostrum swimming circuit.
Savard, from Cap-Rouge, Que., captured silver in the women's 100-metre butterfly, finishing behind two-time world medallist Jeanette Ottesen of Denmark. Marie Wattel of France was third.
"It's my best time this year so I'm pleased," Savard told Sportcom. "I'm currently in hard training for the world championships and the Pan Am Games so to so it's pretty good to be in the 57s."
Savard finished in 57.76.
Caldwell, from White Rock, B.C., was second in the 200-metre backstroke behind three-time world champion Katinka Hosszu of Hungary. Jenny Mensing of Germany was third.
Cochrane, from Victoria, finished third in the men's 400 freestyle. James Guy of Britain won the gold, ahead of Devon Brown of South Africa.
Chantal Van Landeghem of Winnipeg was seventh in the women's 50 freestyle.
