New York, NY - Toronto Blue Jays third baseman Josh Donaldson was named the American League Player of the Week on Monday.
Donaldson led all major leaguers last week with six home runs, 11 runs batted in, 11 runs scored and a 1.240 slugging percentage in six games. He also led the American League with a .440 batting average and eight extra-base hits during an 11-for-25 performance.
It was the second AL weekly honor for Donaldson, who first earned the award April 28, 2013 with Oakland.
Others considered for this week's award were Houston pitcher Dallas Keuchel, who threw a pair of complete games with one shutout and was 1-1 with 14 strikeouts; Oakland pitcher Jesse Chavez, who was 1-1 with an ERA of 0.00 and 10 strikeouts in 16 innings over two starts; and Yankees catcher Brian McCann, who homered in four straight games, drove in eight runs and had a 1.118 slugging percentage.
