The Calgary Flames signed defenseman Dougie Hamilton to a multiyear contract Tuesday. Terms of the contract were not released but TSN reported it to be six years for $34.5 million, with an average annual value of $5.75 million.
Had he not signed by Wednesday, Hamilton would have become a restricted free agent.
The Flames acquired Hamilton, 22, from the Boston Bruins on Friday in a trade for Calgary's first-round pick (No. 15) and two second-round picks (Nos. 45 and 52) at the 2015 NHL Draft.
Hamilton had 42 points in 72 games this season for the Bruins. Selected by the Bruins with the ninth pick of the 2011 draft, he has 83 points in 178 games in three seasons.
