Just one day after placing him on waivers, the Montreal Canadiens have officially bought out Pierre-Alexandre Parenteau, the team announced Monday.
Parenteau, 32, had one year remaining on his contract, worth $4 million. His buyout means the club will take on a $1.33 million cap hit for over the next two seasons.
"I would like to thank Pierre-Alexandre for his time as a Montreal Canadien and wish him the best with his career," said general manager Marc Bergevin via a team press release. "It was a difficult decision to make, but we feel it gives us more flexibility as we continue to improve our club and provide our young prospects with an opportunity to earn a spot on our roster."
The right winger spent one season with Montreal, registering eight goals and 22 points in 56 games.
