Sotheby's tapped rapper Drake to curate the musical pairings for a new exhibition, "I Like It Like This," at its S|2 contemporary art division, but the auction house played the wrong track list for its press preview of the project.
The exhibition includes works by Jean-Michel Basquiat, Kara Walker, Tony Lewis and other contemporary African-American artists, paired with hip-hop songs chosen by the 28-year-old Canadian rapper. But during the press preview Tuesday afternoon, Sotheby's played Kendrick Lamar's "F - - k Your Ethnicity," Rihanna's "Bitch Better Have My Money," and Young Thug's "Strange Things" out of order.
The soundtrack snafu wasn't noticed until after some news outlets had published stories with the wrong song lineup. Sotheby's issued a release with the right musical pairings shortly after, and writers had to re-edit their stories with the new info.
A rep for Sotheby's admitted it "initially mismatched as a result of an error at Sotheby's, but they've all been worked out now." A Drake rep declined to comment.
