Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins have won the first two games against the Ottawa Senators this season, with center Evgeni Malkin scoring three goals. Forward David Perron had the only goal of the shootout in the most recent game at Canadian Tire Centre, on Feb. 12.

Penguins team scope: Pittsburgh's lead on Ottawa in the standings is down to two points, but the Penguins can clinch a berth in the Stanley Cup Playoffs with a regulation win. They can't fall out of a playoff spot even if the Senators win in regulation because they'll still own the regulation/overtime wins (ROW) tiebreaker. Forward Brandon Sutter has goals in consecutive games and is two off his career high of 21 set in 2009-10 with the Carolina Hurricanes. Defenseman Ian Cole has five assists during a four-game point streak. Cole has seven points in 17 games since being acquired from the St. Louis Blues, where he had nine points in 54 games. The Penguins play their final regular-season home game Friday against the New York Islanders before finishing Saturday at the Buffalo Sabres.

Senators team scope: Goalie Andrew Hammond will start and look to rebound from his third NHL loss, 3-2 to the Toronto Maple Leafs in a shootout Sunday. Hammond was nevertheless named NHL First Star for the past week Monday after he went 3-0-1 to run his record to 17-1-2. Forward Mark Stone had one goal and one assist against Toronto and has four goals and four assists during a six-game point streak. Stone entered the week tied for fourth among NHL rookies with 22 goals and third with 59 points. Forward Kyle Turris assisted on goals by Stone and defenseman Erik Karlsson and has one goal and four assists during a three-game point streak. Karlsson leads NHL defensemen with 65 points and his 21 goals are second. This is the final regular-season home game for the Senators, who play at the New York Rangers on Thursday and Philadelphia Flyers on Saturday.
