Season series: The Montreal Canadiens have won the first two games against the New Jersey Devils. Canadiens defenseman P.K. Subban has six assists, and forward Tomas Plekanec has three goals. Devils forward Mike Cammalleri has two goals.

Canadiens team scope: Montreal has a game in hand on the Tampa Bay Lightning and is one point ahead of them for first place in the Atlantic Division. Backup goalie Dustin Tokarski could start; Carey Price, who leads the NHL in wins (41), goals-against average (1.95) and save percentage (.935), has allowed four goals in each of his past two starts. The Canadiens entered Thursday ranked eighth in the League on the penalty kill but allowed three power-play goals in a game for the first time this season in a 5-4 shootout loss to the Washington Capitals. "I could understand that this is the best power play in the League, but we can't allow them three goals," coach Michel Therrien told the Canadiens website after the game. Forward Max Pacioretty has a point in six of his past seven games (three goals, four assists).

Devils team scope: Goalie Keith Kinkaid will start. He made 29 saves in a 3-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes on Saturday in his most recent game. Kinkaid is 0-2-0 and has allowed nine goals against Montreal. "I've had two shots at them already," Kinkaid told Northjersey.com. "I'd like to get a win against them, that would be good. They're a top team. It will be a like a playoff game for us. We want to still make some noise and notice throughout the League and finish strong." Forward Stephen Gionta will not be in the lineup after sustaining a back injury in a 3-2 overtime loss to the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Forward Reid Boucher could be in for Gionta. The Devils have lost a season-high six games in a row (0-4-2).
