DETROIT -- Mark Stone, Mika Zibanejad and Kyle Turris scored in the shootout to give the Ottawa Senators a 2-1 win against the Detroit Red Wings at Joe Louis Arena on Tuesday.

Ottawa forward Clarke MacArthur scored his 14th goal late in the third period to send the game to overtime, and Senators goalie Andrew Hammond made 16 saves through overtime before stopping two of four Red Wings shooters in the tiebreaker.

The Senators (38-26-12) are three points behind the Boston Bruins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference.

Detroit forward Gustav Nyquist scored his 25th goal in the second period, and goalie Petr Mrazek made 33 saves through overtime.

Nyquist and Tomas Tatar scored for the Red Wings in the shootout.

Detroit (40-23-13) is third in the Atlantic Division, two points ahead of Boston.

Pavel Datsyuk and Riley Sheahan were late scratches for the Red Wings. Datsyuk played the past two games after missing the previous five because of a lower-body injury. Sheahan missed his third consecutive game. It was thought that he would return Tuesday after he participated in the morning skate.

Detroit was also without right wing Erik Cole because of an upper-body injury.

Red Wings forward Drew Miller was accidentally kicked in the face by Stone 1:10 into the game and sustained two deep lacerations around his right eye. He did not return.

MacArthur tied the game 1-1 with 4:02 left in the third period. His shot from the high slot area found its way past a crowd, off a Red Wings player's skate and past Mrazek.

Detroit was outshot 25-9 through the first two periods but scored the only goal.

Nyquist opened the scoring 5:43 into the second period on the Red Wings sixth shot on goal. His wrist shot from the top of the right circle off the rush beat Hammond high on the long side. It came after Nyquist took a drop pass from Justin Abdelkader.

Mrazek stopped Senators forward Mike Hoffman on a breakaway with about 9:40 remaining in the first period.

Stone also had a breakaway but his backhand went wide with about nine minutes left in the first.
