Drew Hutchison has been named the Toronto Blue Jays Opening Day starter for 2015.
It was announced Tuesday that the 24-year-old right-hander will be on the hill when the team opens its season at Yankee Stadium on Monday.
The Jays' Opening Day roster also came closer to its final shape on Tuesday.
According to MLB.com's Gregor Chisholm, the Jays will carry only two catchers heading into the season. The team has reportedly assigned Josh Thole to Buffalo (AAA) with Russell Martin expected to be knuckleballer R.A. Dickey's primary battery-mate.
The Jays have also informed outfielder Steve Tolleson that he has made the team.
Final decisions on the number of arms in the bullpen and bats on the bench are still expected.
Jays general manager Alex Anthopoulos told reporters Tuesday that a final decision on the bullpen was being delayed in the event of a move or multiple moves being made to acquire additional arms prior to opening day.
One player who will not feature into the Jays' plans this season is outfielder Dayan Viciedo, who was formally granted his release on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Cuban was signed to a minor league contract on Mar. 1. In 145 games with the Chicago White Sox last season Viciedo hit 21 home runs and drove in 58 RBI.
