Goalie Andrew Hammond will start for the Ottawa Senators Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings (7:30 p.m. ET: RDS, TSN5, FS-D), coach Dave Cameron announced following the morning skate.
Hammond sat out the past two games with a lower-body injury. Craig Anderson started each game last weekend, losses to the Toronto Maple Leafs and Florida Panthers.
The Senators have lost three straight (0-2-1) and are three points behind the Boston Bruins for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference. Ottawa has seven games remaining, including a game in hand on Boston.
Hammond went 14-0-1 to start his NHL career that sparked Ottawa's postseason push. He is 14-1-1 with a 1.92 goals-against average .938 save percentage and two shutouts in 17 games (16 starts).
