PHILADELPHIA -- Jiri Hudler scored at 1:23 of overtime to help the Calgary Flames to a 3-2 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Tuesday.
TJ Brodie carried the puck down the left side of the Philadelphia zone and centered it to Hudler, who scored from the slot for his 20th goal. Calgary rookie forward Johnny Gaudreau, who grew up near Philadelphia, had an assist on the game-winner.
Sean Monahan and Mikael Backlund also scored for the Flames (34-25-4), and Karri Ramo made 35 saves.
It was the Flames' first game since learning Monday that captain and top defenseman Mark Giordano would miss the rest of the season because of a torn biceps tendon.
Sean Couturier and Mark Streit scored for the Flyers (27-25-12), and goalie Steve Mason made 23 saves.
Trailing 2-0 after two periods, the Flyers scored twice in the first 8:15 of the third period to tie the game.
Couturier started the comeback with a goal at 00:53.
Ryan White won a faceoff on the right side of the Calgary zone, and then Couturier won a board battle with Brodie on the right side and sent the puck to White down low. White carried it behind the Calgary net, came out on the left side and snapped a pass through the crease to Couturier, who scored his 13th of the season from the right post.
The Flyers thought they tied the game at 4:24 of the third period when a pileup in front of the Flames net off the rebound of a Jakub Voracek shot squirted under Ramo, but the referees ruled no goal because of interference on Ramo.
Philadelphia scored a goal that counted at 8:15 when Streit redirected a Michael Raffl shot past Ramo. The play was set up when Philadelphia captain Claude Giroux intercepted an attempted pass out of the zone by Calgary's Kris Russell. Giroux had an assist on the goal; it was the 300th of his career.
The Flames' first two goals came off Flyers turnovers.
Backlund gave the Flames a 2-0 lead at 4:58 of the second period. Flyers forward Wayne Simmonds tried clearing the puck out of his end, but his pass was intercepted by Flames rookie forward Emile Poirier. Poirier carried the puck behind the Flyers net and left it for teammate Lance Bouma, who circled behind the net the other way and came out in front on the left side. Bouma slid a backhand shot that bounced off Mason's pads and Streit's skate to Backlund on the far post for an easy tap-in goal.
Monahan gave the Flames a 1-0 lead at 6:30 of the first. Flyers defenseman Michael Del Zotto tried carrying the puck through the middle of the ice when he lost it to Hudler. Flyers forward Pierre-Edouard Bellemare got back to check Hudler off the puck, but Mason Raymond picked up the loose puck and got it over to Monahan, who fired a hard shot from the right side that beat Mason over his blocker.
The goal was Monahan's 22nd of the season, matching the total he had last season as a rookie.
