VANCOUVER -- Chris Higgins, Yannick Weber and Radim Vrbata scored in the final 9:03 of the second period, and the Vancouver Canucks rallied from a two-goal deficit to defeat the Winnipeg Jets 5-2 at Rogers Arena on Tuesday.

Eddie Lack made the best three of his 26 saves in the final three minutes and Henrik Sedin and Vrbata added empty-net goals in the final 32 seconds to help the Canucks (43-26-4) extend their winning streak to three games. Henrik Sedin and Daniel Sedin each had two assists.

Vancouver moved four points ahead of the Calgary Flames for second place in the Pacific Division and kept them four up on the Los Angeles Kings. Each team has nine games remaining.

Jiri Tlusty and Blake Wheeler scored, and goalie Michael Hutchinson made 25 saves for the Jets, who had their winning streak snapped at five games. Winnipeg (38-24-12) remained in the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Western Conference; the Jets are two points ahead of the Kings, who defeated the New York Rangers 4-2 earlier Tuesday, and have played one more game.

Despite missing three of their top-eight scorers in center Bryan Little, defenseman Dustin Byfuglien and forward Mathieu Perreault, the Jets were trying to win six in a row for the first time since November 2010.

Ondrej Pavelec was in goal for the first five wins, posting a .967 save percentage during the streak. But after earning NHL First Star honors last week and making 33 saves in a 4-1 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Monday, Pavelec watched as Hutchinson played against the Canucks.

Hutchinson made several good first-period saves after Tlusty gave the Jets an early lead, and Wheeler put the Jets up by two goals 5:07 into the second period.

But Higgins started the Canucks' comeback at 10:57 with a one-timer off the rush that hit a defender's stick and snuck under Hutchinson's arm. Weber tied it with a power play one-timer from the point through traffic with 3:31 left in the period, and Vrbata put the Canucks ahead with a pretty goal at 19:00. Henrik Sedin chipped the puck down the left boards to Vrbata behind the defense; he took it to the net and got Hutchinson to commit before patiently skating around the crease and lifting his 28th goal into the other side.

There was plenty of action early.

Lack threw out his right pad to stop Jets center Mark Scheifele on a breakaway 40 seconds into the game after Canucks defenseman Christopher Tanev, who signed a five-year, $22.5-million contract extension earlier in the day, fell at his blue line to create the chance.

Tlusty opened the scoring after another turnover in the Canucks' end less than two minutes later. It was his first goal since coming to the Jets in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes on Feb. 25. Tlusty, who had his fourth assist with Winnipeg in the win against Edmonton, took a pass from Eric O'Dell at the left faceoff dot and beat a screened Lack with a wrist shot high on the blocker side.

Hutchinson, who has lost two straight since being pulled after giving up four goals on seven shots against the St. Louis Blues on March 10, got a break when Nick Bonino hit the post with a wide-open net on the backdoor four minutes into the first period. The puck caromed off the post and Hutchinson's skate as he scrambled back, and he was able to stack his pads to stop Bonino on the rebound.

Wheeler doubled the lead after a dominant stretch that saw the Jets make a line change while pinning the Canucks deep in their own end. Lack lost his stick during the shift and couldn't cut off Drew Stafford's wraparound to his left; the puck bounced off his pads and settled just above the goal line to his right. Wheeler, who flattened Daniel Sedin earlier in the shift despite wearing a full face shield after needing root canals from an errant puck Monday, fought to the net and knocked in his 23rd goal.

The assist extended Stafford's point streak to seven games (four goals, five assists).

Higgins got the Canucks on the board after a nice cross-ice pass from Vrbata off the rush, and Weber tied it with Tlusty in the penalty box for slashing. It was Weber's second straight game with a goal and the third straight game in which Vancouver's power play produced a goal after Weber was added to the point of the top unit; before that, the Canucks had gone five games without a power-play goal.

Hutchinson stopped Bo Horvat on a breakaway midway through the third period to keep it close, but Lack responded by turning away Michael Frolik twice from the slot with three minutes left, and then used his glove to rob Scheifele with 1:03 left to play.
