Season series: The Los Angeles Kings are going for a two-game sweep against the Ottawa Senators. The Kings got goals from five players and a 32-save performance by Jonathan Quick in a 5-3 win at Canadian Tire Centre on Dec. 11, 2014.

Senators team scope: Ottawa began a five-game road trip by defeating the Anaheim Ducks 3-0 on Wednesday. Andrew Hammond, a 27-year-old rookie goaltender, made 25 saves for his third win in as many career starts and his first NHL shutout. The Senators begin the night seven points behind the Boston Bruins, who hold the second Eastern Conference wild-card position for the Stanley Cup Playoffs, and have two games in hand on the Bruins. Kyle Turris, whose empty-net goal with 6.4 seconds remaining closed out the victory in Anaheim, has goals in five of his past six games. Ottawa's only win in 14 visits to Staples Center came on Jan. 11, 2000,

Kings team scope: Los Angeles is going for its ninth consecutive victory after defeating the Detroit Red Wings 1-0 on Tuesday. The biggest news Wednesday came off the ice: The Kings signed forward Kyle Clifford to a five-year contract extension and acquired defenseman Andrej Sekera in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes for a prospect and a conditional first-round draft pick. General manager Dean Lombardi said the hot streak ended any questions as to whether the Kings would be buyers or sellers as the NHL Trade Deadline (3 p.m. ET on Monday) approaches. "Given what they have accomplished and the way they have responded here … you say, 'Let's get aggressive here and make this better, just as we expect them to make themselves better,'" he said, according to LA Kings Insider. Sekera will give coach Darryl Sutter more options on the blue line, where the Kings are missing regulars Slava Voynov (suspended) and Alec Martinez (concussion symptoms).
