RE: [SurroundSound] Re: SACD ripping offer (Australia)

G'Day Daniel

Congrats on your find, and I hope you're making the most of the summer in Oz, I am in the UK (not) enjoying our winter!

Bit far for me to avail myself of your service, however regarding conversion, I wanted to inform you there already are numerous Windows software products that can be used to convert DFF files to FLAC:

DBPOWERAMP has a DSD plugin. Also Saracon is a professional utility which costs 1000s of USD though!

In addition it is possible to play / convert DFF files (and SACD ISO files) using Foobar on windows with foo_input_sacd component added.

I would suspect Saracon gives the best results, but that would be why they charge so much for it I suppose.

There are probably other products I have forgotten also…good luck.

Regards

Bob.

Having finally located a PlayStation 3 with the right hardware and firmware, I have succeeded in digitally ripping all my SACDs to my music server (as .DFF files).  I can't play them yet, as I can't find any software to convert them to a format my hardware can play, but in time I hope to write my own program to do this.

But why I'm posting here is to offer to any Australia-based members of this group a free* service for digitally ripping their SACDs.  (* Free apart from my out-of-pocket expenses, viz. DVD-R, jewel case, packing materials and return postage.)  This is a limited time offer - until my PS3 dies (these old units are notorious for that!) or until I get sick of doing it.  You can choose your output from: an ISO file for the disc, or individual track files in DFF or DSF format, multi-channel or stereo (as per the disc contents).

Due to postage costs I think this service would be uneconomical for anyone outside Australia, but if you really can find no better option you are still welcome.

Anyone wishing to avail himself/herself of this service, please PM me for postal address details.

Now experimenting on best way to convert ISO to FLAC. So far only used Foobar to convert to 24bit 88.2kHz. (multichannel 5.1 where possible). Can go to higher sampling rates but seems DSD is equiv to approx 24bit/96kHz. I'll let my ears decide after further listening.
