Season series: Dallas Stars center Jason Spezza will face the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday for the first time since being traded to Dallas this past offseason. Spezza spent his first 11 seasons with the Senators. The Stars swept the two-game series against the Senators in 2013-14, though then-Senator Spezza scored a goal and an assist against his current teammates.
Senators team scope: The Senators snapped a three-game losing streak Saturday with a 5-1 win against the Arizona Coyotes, which coach Dave Cameron said the team will try to carry over into Dallas on Tuesday. "All the good things we did, we're better getting pucks and bodies to the net for sure," Cameron said after practice on Monday. "You just want to keep building on that. That gives us the best chance to create offense." Despite the win, Ottawa remains in seventh place in the Atlantic Division with sizable ground to make up in order to reach the Eastern Conference's final wild-card spot. Cameron said goalie Robin Lehner, who is 0-2-1 in his last three games, will start against Dallas.
Stars team scope: Spezza's first game against his former team will attract plenty of attention, but the Stars may have bigger concerns as several important players' battle illness and injury. While Erik Cole missed the Stars' 4-3 loss to the Colorado Avalanche on Saturday, he was back on the ice at practice Monday. Tyler Seguin, Jamie Benn and Vernon Fiddler, however, were all absent. "All three of them are questionable," coach Lindy Ruff said Monday. "Tyler, I think, is our best chance for playing. The other two are questionable." Dallas has slipped in the Western Conference playoff race after going 0-2-2 in its past four games. The Stars are sixth in the Central Division, but have at least one game in hand on each team ahead of them.
