Season series: The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Anaheim Ducks 6-2 on Dec. 16, which ended Anaheim's seven-game winning streak. Maple Leafs forward Phil Kessel had three points and goalie Jonathan Bernier made 40 saves. Toronto has won six in a row against Anaheim since a 3-2 shootout win by the Ducks on Oct. 21, 2008.

Maple Leafs team scope: Toronto was defeated by the Los Angeles Kings 2-0 on Tuesday, its ninth loss in the past 12 games. The Maple Leafs continue a four-game road trip and will visit the San Jose Sharks on Thursday and St. Louis Blues on Saturday. Toronto, which is 7-9-3 on the road, is in the midst of a stretch in which it will play 16 of 20 games away from Air Canada Centre. Forward Leo Komarov left the game Tuesday with an upper-body injury and likely will not play. Forward James van Riemsdyk has 11 points (five goals, six assists) in his past nine games.

Ducks team scope: Anaheim overcame two two-goal deficits to defeat the Winnipeg Jets 5-4 in a shootout on Sunday. They are 4-2-0 on a season-high eight-game homestand. The Ducks have lost the past three games at Honda Center against the Maple Leafs. "They get us into a horse race, and they're better at that game than we are," coach Bruce Boudreau told the Ducks website. "Sometimes, you get caught playing the other team's game, and it seems that's been happening to us." Goalie Frederik Andersen likely will be in net. Andersen has allowed three or more goals in each of his past three starts.
