EDMONTON -- Matt Hendricks scored two goals and Derek Roy had his first as a member of the Edmonton Oilers in a 5-2 win against the New York Islanders at Rexall Place on Sunday.
Roy scored the first of three third-period goals to help Edmonton earn its third win in its past 25 games.
It was Roy's fourth game with Edmonton; he was acquired in a trade with the Nashville Predators in exchange for center Mark Arcobello on Dec. 29.
Jordan Eberle and Matt Fraser also scored for Edmonton, which ended a two-game skid. Ben Scrivens made 31 saves for his seventh win of the season.
Johnny Boychuk and Brock Nelson scored for the Islanders, who saw their three-game win streak ended. Jaroslav Halak made 18 saves in the loss.
Hendricks scored at 16:59 of the first period after Halak lost possession of the puck behind the net. Halak left to play the puck and was checked by Oilers forward Rob Klinkhammer, who sent it out to Hendricks in front.
Klinkhammer was making his Oilers debut, acquired Friday in a trade with the Pittsburgh Penguins, along with a first-round pick in the 2015 NHL Draft, in exchange for forward David Perron.
Eberle increased the Oilers' lead to 2-0, eight seconds into the second period. The Oilers right wing took a cross-ice pass from Taylor Hall and sent a wrist shot past Halak.
Glenn Anderson holds the Oilers record for fastest goal from the start of the period, scoring six seconds into the third period in a 9-1 win against the Los Angeles Kings on March 17, 1984.
Boychuk scored for the Islanders at 3:41 on the power play to cut the lead to 2-1. Boychuk took a shot from the blue line that beat Scrivens.
The Oilers had chances to extend their lead before the end of the period, the best falling to Roy and Teddy Purcell, who broke out on a 2-on-0 breakaway. The two, however, were unable to get a shot off; Roy and Purcell passed the puck back and forth to each other until Roy ran out of room and had the puck bounce off his stick and rolled wide.
Later in the period, Halak made a pad save on Eberle at the side of the net on a two-man advantage to keep the Islanders within a goal.
Roy did give the Oilers a 3-1 lead at 2:33 of the third period, capitalizing on a mistake from Islanders defenseman Lubomir Visnovsky behind the net. Visnovsky lost control of the puck circling his net and it bounced off the side of the net to Roy, who fired it past Halak.
Hendricks scored an empty-net goal at 17:30 to give Edmonton a 4-1 lead. Fraser scored 17 seconds later to make it 5-1.
Nelson scored a power-play goal at 19:29.
The Islanders continue their season-long seven-game road trip on Tuesday at the Vancouver Canucks. Edmonton hosts the Detroit Red Wings on Tuesday.
