Season series: The Winnipeg Jets and Minnesota Wild have split the first two games. They will complete a home-and-home set Monday after the Jets won 4-3 in overtime at Xcel Energy Center on Saturday. The Wild won the first game 4-3 in overtime in St. Paul on Nov. 16. Wild right wing Jason Pominville scored Saturday and also has four assists against the Jets.
Wild team scope: Minnesota is on a five-game losing streak (0-2-3) and has not won since Dec. 13. Defenseman Jonas Brodin and center Mikael Granlund are out indefinitely after each sustained an upper-body injury Saturday. The Wild assigned defenseman Justin Falk to Iowa of the American Hockey League on Sunday. Forward Jason Zucker (illness) did not practice Sunday, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune, which reported the Wild are likely to recall at least one player from Iowa for the game. Goaltender Darcy Kuemper is likely to start, according to the paper. Kuemper was scheduled to start Saturday but could not play because of food poisoning. The Wild placed goaltender Niklas Backstrom (illness) on injured reserve before the game Saturday and recalled goaltender John Curry from Iowa. Curry made 19 saves in the loss to Winnipeg. After the game, the Wild move on to visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday.
Jets team scope: Winnipeg begins a four-game homestand having won four of its past five games (4-0-1). Forwards Evander Kane (lower body) and Mathieu Perreault did not practice Sunday, according to the Jets website. Coach Paul Maurice said that Perreault will play against Minnesota, but Kane's status has not been determined. In case Kane is unable to play, the Jets recalled center Patrice Cormier from the St. John's IceCaps of the American Hockey League on Sunday. Winnipeg has recalled Cormier twice this season, but he has not dressed for a game. Perreault's eight-game point streak (five goals, four assists) ended in the overtime win against the Wild. He has points in eight of his past 10 games. Goaltender Michael Hutchinson has started three of the past four games, but Maurice has not announced the starting goaltender for Monday. The second game of the homestand is Wednesday against the New York Islanders.
