Season series: The Ottawa Senators have won seven straight games against the Washington Capitals since the 2011-12 season. The Senators have outscored the Capitals 24-11 in those seven games, and Washington has one point (0-6-1).

Senators team scope: Ottawa is 3-2-1 since Dave Cameron was named coach. Forward Mike Hoffman scored twice in the Senators 6-2 win against the Anaheim Ducks on Friday, and leads the team with 10 goals. Hoffman ranks ninth on the team among forwards in power-play ice time at 1:39 per game. Ottawa is 7-9-3 on the road. "It's not hard to get up for a divisional game, and now a Monday night game in Washington D.C. …You've got to empty the tank because you know you have four days off after," forward Bobby Ryan told the Senators website after practice Sunday.

Capitals team scope: Washington defeated the New Jersey Devils 4-0 on Saturday and is 6-0-2 in its past eight games to move into third place in the Metropolitan Division. The Capitals have allowed 16 goals in eight games. Goaltender Braden Holtby has played in every game since a Nov. 15 loss to the St. Louis Blues. Washington is 9-3-3 in that span. Holtby's save percentage in December is .927, and .934 in the past eight games. Forward Andre Burakovsky was recalled from the Hershey Bears of the American Hockey League after playing two games. The 2013 first-round pick was a healthy scratch in five of his six games prior to being assigned. Burakovsky has four goals and 13 points in 26 games for Washington.
