Season series: Jiri Sekac and Lars Eller each had a goal and an assist and goaltender Carey Price made 31 saves to lead the Montreal Canadiens to a 4-1 win against the Minnesota Wild on Nov. 8 at Bell Centre.
Canadiens team scope: Montreal got good news on the injury front Tuesday when forward Michael Bournival returned to the ice for practice. Bournival skated with his teammates for the first time on Monday following an injury to his shoulder sustained Nov. 5 against the Buffalo Sabres. He has played in two games this season but scored seven goals and 14 points in 60 games as a rookie last season. Coach Michel Therrien said Bournival is getting closer to a return, but it will not come against the Wild. As he did Monday in Colorado, Bournival is expected to take part in the morning skate Wednesday and maybe another practice before returning, perhaps as soon as this weekend while the Canadiens play back-to-back games Friday and Saturday against the Chicago Blackhawks and Dallas Stars.
Wild team scope: Red flags were raised Tuesday when defenseman Ryan Suter missed practice with an illness. The mumps has already plagued the Wild on several occasions this season, wreaking havoc on its defensive core. Jonas Brodin, Marco Scandella, Christian Folin and Keith Ballard have all missed time because of the illness. The good news: Minnesota appears to have dodged a bullet with Suter: No swollen glands in the neck, no extreme fatigue and, apparently, no mumps. Coach Mike Yeo said Suter told him he expects to be in the lineup Wednesday. Suter is the NHL's leader in time on ice again this season, averaging more than 29 minutes per game. His 12 assists and plus-10 rating also lead the team. Yeo confirmed Tuesday goalie Darcy Kuemper will get the start.
