{allcanada} Alfredsson to join Senators for warm-ups Thursday

Former Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson will join the team on the ice for warm-ups prior to the game Thursday against the New York Islanders at Canadian Tire Centre, the Senators announced through their Twitter account Tuesday afternoon.

Alfredsson is expected to announce his retirement in a press conference that day, according to multiple media reports including The Ottawa Sun, which reported Alfredsson is expected to sign a one-day, symbolic contract so he can retire as a Senator.

Alfredsson spent the first 17 seasons of his NHL career with Ottawa before signing a one-year contract to play with the Detroit Red Wings last season. He scored 426 goals and 682 assists for 1,108 points in 1,178 regular-season games with the Senators.

He was Ottawa's captain for 14 years before departing for Detroit.

Persistent back pain prevented Alfredsson from re-signing with the Red Wings this season and is the reason he is expected to announce his retirement. ESPN.com reported Alfredsson reached out to Senators general manager Bryan Murray earlier this season to let him know of his intentions.
