Season series: The Pittsburgh Penguins won the first two games against the Toronto Maple Leafs this season. The Penguins have won four straight and five of their past six against the Maple Leafs. Pittsburgh's penalty kill was perfect Nov. 14 despite six Toronto power plays in a 2-1 victory at Air Canada Centre.
Maple Leafs team scope: The Maple Leafs suffered two tough losses against the Buffalo Sabres and Nashville Predators by a combined 15-4 margin last week, but victories against the Tampa Bay Lightning and Detroit Red Wings have pushed Toronto Eastern Conference. Goaltender Jonathan Bernier lasted one period against the Predators, but he rebounded to stop 52 of 55 shots against Tampa Bay and Detroit. The Maple Leafs rank towards the top of the League in goals per game (3.19), but are in the bottom third in goals against (2.95). Toronto's forward corps should be bolstered by the return of Joffrey Lupul (hand) and the season debut of David Booth (foot). The two were skating on the fourth line at practice Tuesday. Defenseman Roman Polak is expected to miss four weeks with a knee injury and Korbianian Holzer will make his season debut.
Penguins team scope: Pascal Dupuis scored both of Pittsburgh's goals in the 2-1 victory two weeks ago, but is out of the lineup because of blood clots and is expected to miss a minimum of six months. The Penguins shuffled their lines on Monday against the Boston Bruins in a 3-2 overtime victory. Patric Honqvist and Nick Spaling flanked Sidney Crosby on the top line. Chris Kunitz, Blake Comeau and Evgeni Malkin skated on the second. Beau Bennett (lower-body injury) was hurt, and is questionable. Jayson Megna took Bennett's spot on the third line in practice.
