BOSTON -- Sometimes the latest addition to the lineup winds up making the biggest impact.

That's what Boston Bruins forward Matt Fraser did Saturday night after he was inserted to replace injured center David Krejci right before game time.

In his first game since Oct. 18, Fraser scored his first two goals of the season 1:28 apart to break a tie game in the second period, and the Bruins went on to win their second in a row by defeating the Ottawa Senators 4-2 at TD Garden.

Fraser had no points in four games this season and three goals in 31 career NHL games before Saturday.

Krejci, who has nine points in nine games this season, didn't practice Friday. He took the pregame warmup Saturday after coach Claude Julien said Krejci was ready to play. But when the game started, Fraser was in and Krejci was out.

Goaltender Tuukka Rask stopped 27 of 29 shots for the Bruins, who also got goals from Brad Marchand and Dennis Seidenberg.

The Senators have one win in their past five games (1-2-2). Goaltender Robin Lehner, two days after he was excused to attend the birth of his son Lennox, made 26 saves. Forwards Mike Zibanejad and Mark Stone scored the Senators' goals.

Fraser took over in the second period, which started with the score 1-1. He scored on a one-timer from the right dot at 11:14 after Carl Soderberg's shot from the left circle rebounded off Lehner toward Fraser.

The Bruins doubled their lead on Fraser's second goal. This time Soderberg chipped the puck ahead to Fraser, who kept the puck on a 2-on-1 and roofed a wrist from the bottom of the left circle at 12:42 for a 3-1 lead. The Bruins went to the dressing room with that lead.

Seidenberg scored a goal at 2:08 of the third to put the Bruins ahead 4-1. Zibanejad scored for Ottawa at 15:43.

Marchand continued his hot hand from Thursday by opening the Bruins' scoring with a goal at 18:54 of the first period. Marchand, who scored two goals against the Buffalo Sabres two nights ago, beat Lehner through the five-hole with a wrist shot from the top of the left circle after center Patrice Bergeron beat David Legwand clean on a left-dot faceoff.

The Senators evened the score with 28 seconds remaining in the first. Seidenberg pinched down the left wall to keep Dougie Hamilton's shot around the boards in the Ottawa zone. Seidenberg had a clear path to the puck were it not for linesman Brian Murphy being in the way. Stone took advantage of Seidenberg's fumble around Murphy, grabbed the puck and skated on a 2-on-1 against Hamilton. Stone kept the puck and tucked a shot behind Rask to tie the score 1-1.

The Senators will start a four-game homestand Tuesday against the Detroit Red Wings. The Bruins homestand continues that night against the Florida Panthers.
