OTTAWA -- Patrick Sharp scored the only goal of the shootout to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 5-4 win against the Ottawa Senators at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday.

Blackhawks forward Marian Hossa had a goal and an assist to reach 1,000 NHL points.

The win was the second for the Blackhawks against the Senators in five days.

Sharp faked to his backhand and then shot a forehand past Senators goaltender Craig Anderson.

The Senators tied the game 4-4 on a goal by Mika Zibanejad, his first point of the season, with 3:08 to go in the third period. Zibanejad took a pass from Alex Chiasson in the slot and his shot went by Chicago defenseman Johnny Oduya, who fell to the ice to try to block it, and through the legs of Chicago goaltender Scott Darling.

The goal was scored 4:02 after Hossa gave Chicago a 4-3 lead with his second goal of the season. His 999th point was an assist on the first of two goals by Chicago captain Jonathan Toews.

Toews' second tied the game 3-3 at 7:31 of the third period.

Toews scored each of his goals from the Ottawa crease. His last was scored after a shot by Chicago defenseman Brent Seabrook bounced off Anderson and behind the goaltender. Toews beat the check of Ottawa defenseman Jared Cowen to knock in his fourth goal of the season.

Bobby Ryan put the Senators ahead 3-2, 30 seconds into the third period on a turnover by Blackhawks forward Bryan Bickell in front of his net.

Senators left wing Clarke MacArthur started the play with a pass from behind the net to Kyle Turris in the right-wing circle. Darling stopped Turris' shot and the rebound went to Bickell. His backhand clearing attempt went onto Ryan's stick and he shot it past Darling from the heart of the slot. It was Ryan's second goal and fourth point in his past four games.

The Senators tied the game 2-2 at 2:51 of the second period on Clarke MacArthur's fifth goal of the season. The power-play goal was scored after MacArthur took a pass from David Legwand and attacked the Chicago net along the goal line to Darling's left.

The goal was the Senators' fourth on the power play in four games at home after scoring a League-low 16 here in 2013-14.

The Blackhawks led 2-1 on goals by Toews and Kris Versteeg.

The Senators scored first when a new combination of rookie forwards Mike Hoffman, Curtis Lazar and Mark Stone showed some instant chemistry.

Stone took a pass from defenseman Codi Ceci in the neutral zone and passed the puck rink-wide at the Chicago blue line to Lazar on left wing. Stone beat Blackhawks defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk to the front of the Chicago net and tipped Lazar's shot between Darling's pads.

Toews tied the game 1-1 at 11:25 with his third goal of the season when he pushed the rebound of a shot by Hossa behind Anderson.

Versteeg gave the Blackhawks the lead when he skated around Senators defenseman Erik Karlsson and deked his way by Anderson at 15:38.

Darling started his third game in the NHL and made 28 saves. He was backed up by Corey Crawford, who returned to the lineup after missing five games because of injury. Goaltender Antti Raanta was scratched.

Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said Crawford would likely start Saturday against the Maple Leafs in Toronto.

Senators defenseman Mark Borowiecki did not play after he was injured against the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Patrick Wiercioch replaced him in the lineup.

Anderson, who made 35 saves, was backed up by Andrew Hammond, who was called up from the Binghamton Senators of the American Hockey League on Thursday on an emergency basis. Senators goaltender Robin Lehner missed the game to be with his wife when she gave birth to their first child Thursday, a son.

The Senators' next game is Saturday at the Boston Bruins.
