Season series: The Vancouver Canucks have defeated the Edmonton Oilers twice this season, and the common theme, as it has been for several seasons, was the domination of Vancouver's top-line twins Daniel Sedin and Henrik Sedin. They have combined with new linemate Radim Vrbata to generate four goals and nine assists in the two games.
Canucks team scope: Vancouver will be without forward Alexandre Burrows, who Friday was suspended for three games by the NHL Department of Player Safety for a late, illegal check to the head of Montreal Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin in a 3-2 overtime win Thursday. In anticipation, Burrows skated as an extra defenseman Friday; Jannik Hansen, who has three goals through 10 games on the fourth line, moved up into Burrows' spot on the second line; and Tom Sestito, who has yet to play this season, was on the fourth line. Expect coach Willie Desjardins to roll all four lines, continuing a trend that has seen every forward average more than 10 minutes per game. "The tempo we want to play needs four lines or we'll be too tired in the third [period]," said forward Brad Richardson, who has three goals in the past two games. "It keeps our energy high."
Oilers team scope: Edmonton ended a five-game losing streak to start the season and put together a four-game winning streak. It came against Eastern Conference opponents and ended as soon as the Oilers faced a Western Conference team again, a 4-1 loss to the Nashville Predators on Wednesday. The Oilers are 0-5-1 against the West, with the point coming in a shootout loss to the Canucks after blowing a couple of two-goal leads. "We only play these Eastern teams twice a year and we can take as many points as we can, but we have to find a way to beat the Western ones," forward Ryan Nugent-Hopkins told the Edmonton Journal.
