Season series: The Montreal Canadiens won three of five games against the Toronto Maple Leafs last season. Montreal left wing Max Pacioretty had five goals and seven points in the series. Pacioretty, who scored the overtime winner in a 4-3 victory at Bell Centre on March 1, finished with a series-high 29 shots against Toronto. The 6-foot-2, 217-pound forward has 11 goals and 17 points in 25 career games against the Maple Leafs.

Canadiens team scope: The release of veteran defenseman Francis Bouillon on Monday opens the door for young players Jarred Tinordi and Nathan Beaulieu to make their mark for Montreal this season. Canadiens general manager Marc Bergevin met with both players and stressed the importance of trying to improve each day in an attempt to earn a full-time roster spot. One player certainly on the roster, albeit as a backup to starting goaltender Carey Price, is Dustin Tokarski. Tokarski, who played admirably against the New York Rangers in relief of an injured Price during the Eastern Conference Final last season, officially earned the backup role when Peter Budaj was traded to the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday.

Maple Leafs team scope: Toronto placed a greater emphasis in training camp on getting contributions from all four lines. Two surprises in camp were left wing Brandon Kozun and defenseman Stuart Percy. It is expected that each will be in the lineup against the Canadiens. Kozun will likely skate on the second line with center Nazem Kadri and right wing Joffrey Lupul. Percy might begin the season paired with Roman Polak.
