The Montreal Canadiens have traded Josh Gorges to the Buffalo Sabres in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2016 NHL Draft.

The 29-year-old defenceman had a no-trade clause in his contract but has waived it to facilitate the move.

Gorges has four years remaining on a six-year deal he signed with the Canadiens prior to the 2012-13 season worth an average annual value of $3.9 million.

In 66 games with the Canadiens in 2013-14, Gorges scored one goal and added 13 assists.

Originally signed as an undrafted free agent in 2002 by the San Jose Sharks, Gorges has scored 14 goals and 84 assists in 560 career games between the two clubs.
