Talks between the Ottawa Senators and pending unrestricted free agent Ales Hemsky have come to a halt, according to a report.

League sources told Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun that the two sides have broken contract negotiations and Hemsky could test the free agent market.

Hemsky earned $5.5 million this past season, according to capgeek.com.

The 30-year-old Hemsky joined the Senators on March 5 in a trade with the Oilers after spending over a decade in Edmonton. Hemsky had 13 goals and 30 assists in 2013-14 including four goals and 13 assists in 20 games with Ottawa.

Edmonton selected Hemsky 13th overall in the 2001 draft and the Pardubice, Czech Republic native has 146 goals and 348 assists in 672 career NHL games.
