The Columbus Blue Jackets on Wednesday traded defenseman Nikita Nikitin to the Edmonton Oilers in exchange for a fifth-round pick in the 2014 NHL Draft.

Nikitin, 28, is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but according to multiple reports the Oilers have agreed to terms with him on a two-year, $9 million contract.

He had two goals and 15 points in 66 regular-season games this season and was scoreless in five Stanley Cup Playoff games.

A fifth-round pick (No. 136) of the St. Louis Blues in the 2004 NHL Draft, Nikitin has career totals of 13 goals and 65 points in 206 games with the Blues and Blue Jackets.

Edmonton has three picks in the fifth round this year; Columbus will receive pick No. 137, which originally belonged to the Blue Jackets but was traded to the Oilers for defenseman Nick Schultz at the NHL Trade Deadline in March.
