One month after Florida Panthers general manager Dale Tallon admitted he was openly fielding offers for the top pick in the 2014 NHL Draft, at least one team has inquired into the cost of selecting first on June 27 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. Calgary Flames general manager Brad Treliving revealed on Friday that he has been in touch with Tallon about potentially acquiring Florida's pick.

The Flames are currently slated to select fourth in the draft.

"Now is the time that all of those conversations are happening," Treliving said. "We're going to keep pounding away and try to get a sense of what other teams are thinking. For the most part, teams have gotten through their meetings. They've done their preparation for the draft. The talk between managers is increasing. We'll see where it goes."

The Flames have never selected first overall in the draft and their current fourth-overall pick would be the highest selection for the franchise since 1973, when it was known as the Atlanta Flames and took forward Tom Lysiak second overall.

After finishing 35-40-7 this season, the Flames will continue to rebuild in 2014-15, primarily around second-year forward Sean Monahan and promising rookie Johnny Gaudreau, who won the Hobey Baker Award this year as the top player in Division I NCAA hockey before signing his entry-level deal with Calgary.

While he is considering moving up in the draft, Treliving made it clear he wasn't willing to pay too high a price.

"We'll see. You're managing it all the time. Is it realistic? I don't know," he said. "We're going to explore everything and if there is something that we feel makes sense, we'll do it. If not, we won't."

Treliving became the seventh general manager in Calgary franchise history on April 28. In addition to their first-round pick, the Flames also have two selections in each of the second and third rounds.
