Fifty Shades Trilogy Bundle - E L James / Get Paid To Work From Home
Kerry Joseph is missing his first CFL season in over a decade, but that doesn’t mean the now retired quarterback won’t be at a training camp this summer.
Joseph told Sportsnet that beginning next month he will be a training camp coaching intern with the New Orleans Saints. The former Grey Cup champion will work on the offensive side of the football, under head coach Sean Payton.
Transitioning into coaching was Joseph’s plan after deciding to retire in January. He had spent many of his off-seasons as a player working in strength and conditioning, and helping youth football.
In the latter stages of his career, in particular last season with the Eskimos, it was almost as if Joseph was a part-time coach and back-up quarterback. He was a regular in the meeting room, putting in extra hours with Mike Reilly as he made the adjustment to becoming the Eskimos starting quarterback.
Joseph broke into the CFL in 2003 with Ottawa, and then moved to Saskatchewan in the 2006 dispersal draft after the Renegades folded. He helped the Roughriders win the third Grey Cup in franchise history in 2007 before landing in Toronto for two seasons.
A native of New Iberia, Louisiana and a McNeese State alum from neighbouring Lake Charles, Louisiana, Joseph has maintained a presence in the football community in the state and has kept a connection with the Saints, allowing him the opportunity to break into coaching with the NFL club.
Joseph’s hope is to eventually become a full-time coach, either in the college or professional ranks.
