Stanley Cup Classics / NHL Greatest Rivalries, Vol. 5
There now may be hope that CFL labour talks can come to a constructive end.
At the conclusion of the first week of training camps, brinkmanship echoed loudly across the league as players and media discussed the Players' Association's strike options ahead of next week's pre-season games. No collective bargaining talks between the league and the union appeared on the horizon.
And then Friday, sources, who desired to remain anonymous, began speaking up about discussions taking place between both sides in a last-ditch attempt to avoid a work stoppage. Although no representatives from either side confirmed any talks had taken place, a source close to the discussions did say talks had not broken down by Friday night, although wouldn't say if any concrete progress had been made.
By Saturday morning, a source confirmed both sides had resumed discussions, and a conference call between union executives and team player reps is scheduled for Saturday night.
The league's existing CBA expired last week and TSN's CFL Insider Dave Naylor reported earlier this week that players on seven of the CFL's nine teams had voted strongly in favour of striking; with the Calgary Stampeders and Edmonton Eskimos expected to vote to strike sometime in the coming days.
