I'm really into portable hi-resolution music. I've ripped over 200 SACD's and DVD-A's. And I've been doing most of my purchasing lately on the high resolution sites. I also rip LP's using a pro high resolution recorder.
-- I have an Astel&Kern AK120 that converts DSD to PCM. I really don't bother with DSD for that device because 88.2k flacs sound fine and are half the size.
I got to compare DSD to PCM on a Chord Hugo and the advantages were still pretty slight.
I think it's really easy to get caught up in specs, but sound quality is a lot more complex than numbers can express. I would probably rather listen to redbook CD's through the Hugo than 192khz 24 bit on most other devices.
Head-fi.org is full of great info about portable audio. If you can make it to one of their meet-ups you will learn a lot and have a great time.
