WINNIPEG - Winnipeg Jets centre Jim Slater has undergone off-season hip surgery, but it isn't expected to keep him from training camp.
General manager Kevin Cheveldayoff issued a statement Friday about the operation to fix a problem that was diagnosed after the season ended.
"Jim Slater underwent successful hip labrum surgery yesterday to repair an issue that was diagnosed following the season," said Cheveldayoff.
The labrum is a ring of cartilage around the outside rim of the socket of the hip joint.
"The surgery was performed by Dr. Bryan Kelly at the Hip Preservation Center in New York. It is anticipated Jim will make a full recovery in time for training camp in September."
Slater has had a rough couple of seasons with the Jets. Injuries limited his playing time to only 26 games in 2012-13 and just 27 last season, when he was sidelined by a hernia.
