Steve Nash will be kept on the Los Angeles Lakers’ roster next season, according to a report from the Los Anegeles Times.
The two-time MVP is set to earn $9.7 million in 2014-15 but the Lakers could opt to waive him from their roster this summer and spread his salary out for the next three years.
The Canadian point guard has battled injuries this season and has only appeared in 12 games.
Keeping Nash on the roster next season would give the Lakers more cap space in the summers of 2015 and 2016, years when the likes of Kevin Love and Kevin Durant could be entering free agency.
Nash is averaging 11.8 points and 8.9 assists this season.
