{allcanada} Robin Thicke to be a no-show at Juno Awards

Robin Thicke has pulled out of appearing at the Junos.

The singer and multiple Juno Award nominee was scheduled to perform at MTS Centre tonight, but cancelled after being placed on "mandatory vocal rest," organizers said Sunday morning. Thicke had already postponed concerts on Friday and Saturday night due to the ailment.

“This is show business, so we’re always prepared for this type of situation,” said John Brunton, executive producer of the two-hour show, to be broadcast on CTV. “This morning’s announcement will not impact what is looking to be a hell of a show.

"If rehearsals are any indication, viewers will be treated to a fantastic broadcast, and a few surprises as well.”

The news of Thicke's no-show may be welcomed by some. An online petition had been launched earlier this week in an attempt to remove the singer from the show, with critics saying lyrics in his hit song Blurred Lines trivialize sexual assault.

Thicke's sudden exit isn't the only challenge organizers are facing. On Sunday morning, Environment Canada declared a winter storm watch for Winnipeg that could hit right as the show is starting, bringing with it up to 25 cm of snow.
