VANCOUVER -- Eddie Lack, rather than Roberto Luongo, will start in goal Sunday for the Vancouver Canucks against the Ottawa Senators in the 2014 Tim Hortons NHL Heritage Classic (4 p.m. ET, NBCSN, CBC, RDS), according to TSN.
Canucks coach John Tortorella said following the team's practice Saturday that he would wait until Sunday to name his starting goaltender.
If Lack gets the start it would be his third straight. He had a 20-save shutout against the St. Louis Blues on Wednesday, the Canucks' first game after the Olympic break, and Friday against the Minnesota Wild he stopped 22 of 23 shots in regulation and overtime and stopped six of seven shootout attempts in a 2-1 loss.
"If I would be the guy of course it would be a tremendous honor to play one of these games," Lack said following practice. "It's going to be 50,000 in the stands. If I get the honor I'll go out there and play my game."
For the season Lack is 9-8-4 with a 2.05 goals-against average, .925 save percentage and three shutouts in 24 games.
Luongo hasn't played since returning from winning a gold medal with Canada at the 2014 Sochi Olympics. In 42 games this season he is 19-16-6 with a 2.38 GAA, .917 save percentage and three shutouts. He played one game for Canada at the Olympics.
"I've always wanted to play in an outdoor game," Luongo said. "So I was excited when I saw we got one this year and I was looking forward to it."
